First Brazilian superior school of Journalism, Faculdade Cásper Líbero (Cásper Líbero College) was created in 1947 as part of the testamentary dispositions of the lawyer, journalist and businessman Cásper Líbero. Afterwards, the institution expanded its performance in the instruction of Social Communication and started offering Publicity & Advertising, Public Relations and Radio & TV. Nowadays, Cásper Líbero College also develops graduate studies - master's degree and specialization -, holds an interdisciplinary center of research and promotes university extension courses. 

Kept by the Cásper Líbero Foundation and located in an address that has become a symbol of São Paulo - Paulista Avenue, 900 - Cásper Líbero College is part of a communication complex formed by Gazeta TV, Gazeta radios AM and FM and Gazeta Esportiva Net. 

Throughout its sixty years of existence, one of the Cásper Líbero College great concerns is to make that the technical training of students be complemented by an ethical and humanistic formation of excellence - completely necessary to any Communication activity. Therefore, the College believes that the teaching/learning relation must constitute a stimulating experience, both productive and pleasurable, due to a consistent socio-cultural foundation.  

Cásper Líbero College has been establishing itself as an important partner of Brazilian communication companies, offering them many of its talented professionals. Considering together the undergraduate and graduate courses, the institution has, today, about 3.000 registered students, 124 professors and 84 officials. 

Recognized in both academic and professional levels, Cásper Líbero College is proud to has received, in 2007, the Luiz Beltrão Prize in the category "paradigmatic institution", awarded by the Intercom - Brazilian Society of Interdisciplinary Studies of Communication, and to has obtained, in 2009, the first collocation on the Guia Imprensa - As Melhores Faculdades de Jornalismo do Brasil (Press Guide – The Best Journalism Colleges of Brazil), according to the following parameters: staff, pedagogical project, laboratorial experience and students presence in labor market.  

The Journalism course of Cásper Líbero College counts on the work of professionals to set the example of solid academic formation along with vast experience in the market. The number of laboratorial organs - supervised by professors - for students' practice gathers the Web Journalism Laboratory - exercised in the College site -, the Universitary Radio (which has a programming created and produced wholly by students), the house-organ A Imprensa (The Press), the magazines Esquinas (Corners) and Cásper and the TV program Edição Extra (Extra Edition), the only of its genre regularly forwarded in open TV in the country. Moreover, there is the Workshop de Telejornalismo (TV Journalism Workshop), conducted, since 2003, in partnership with USA Consulate. 

The master's degree program of Cásper Líbero College is concentrated in the identification and comprehension of the new meanings of Communication in contemporaneity, investigating the dynamics of technological advances, of professional markets and of media’s processes and products. There are two research lines: "Processos Midiáticos: Tecnologia e Mercado" (Media Processes: Technology and Market) and "Produtos Midiáticos: Jornalismo e Entretenimento" (Media Products: Journalism and Entertainment). 

The Cásper Líbero College's graduate program Lato Sensu provides specialization and improvement in Social Communication, or yet the qualification for the office of university teaching. There are four research lines: "Teoria e Práticas da Comunicação" (Communication Theory and Practices), "Comunicação Jornalística" (Journalistic Communication), "Marketing e Comunicação Publicitária" (Marketing and Advertising Communication) and "Comunicação Organizacional e Relações Públicas" (Organizational Communication and Public Relations).  

Created in 2000, the Interdisciplinar Center of Research of Cásper Líbero College offers four research lines: "Comunicação, Tecnologia e Política" (Communication, Technology and Politics), "Comunicação, Meios e Mensagens" (Communication, Media and Messages), "Comunicação e Mercado" (Communication and Market) and "Comunicação na Sociedade Informacional" (Communication in Informational Society). Within these research lines, students and professors develop projects leading to the reflection about the social reality of Communication spectrum. In order to disclose the produced knowledge and expand academic exchange, Cásper Líbero College sponsors two scientific periodics - Líbero  and Communicare. Its editorial boards are formed by PhD researches of several brazilian institutions. 

The José Geraldo Vieira Library started its activity in 1948, a year after the inauguration of Journalism superior school. In June 2008 occurred the modernization of the collection's management system, providing access to online services. Located in an area of 625 m2, the Library has a collection of 48.000 books, 500 journals, 3.800 movies and several databases online and on CD-ROM. There is also a Center of Documentation and Research where the industry newspaper library, the audiovisual collection, the collection of historical newspapers and other rare materials are found.
